The Bastrop Bears won their first opener since 2015 defeating Bryan Rudder 36-14. Bastrop scored twice in the first quarter on an 8-yard run by Jhe’ Quay Chretrin after a bad snap on a Rudder punt. The second score was by Bastrop quarterback Desmond Young on a 1-yard run. Both extra points were made by Carlos Martinez. First quarter score was 14-0. In the second quarter, Bastrop scored twice again, first on a 11-yard run by Young and second on a 50-yard pass from Young to Tarver (kick failed). The half ended 27-0. In the third quarter Eddie Brown scored on a 2-yard run and Rudder scored on a 2-yard run by James Ayers, kick by Walker. The quarter ended with a score of 33-7. In the final quarter, Martinez kicked a 38-yard field goal. Rudder scored on a 20-yard run by Green and Walker’s kick was good. The final score was Bastrop 36-Rudder 14. Bastrop led in first downs 16-10, rushing yards 102-62 and passing yards 203-82.
