Bastrop defeated Del Valle 31-14 for their first District 25-4A victory.After a short Cardinal punt, the Bears took over on the Cardinals 30 yard line. After a 4 play drive, Ricky Lincoln scored on a 1 yard run giving the Bears a 7-0 lead. Del Valle quickly tied the score after a seven play 77 yard drive. The first quarter ended at 7-7, after the Bears threatened again but were intercepted at the Cardinal nine. The Cardinals immediately went to work shocking the Bears with a 91 yard run by Terryn Washington to start the second quarter, giving them a 14-7 lead. The Bears came back to score on a 17 yard run by Maurice Jones to tie the score at 14-14. The Bears would score again before the half on a 12 play 60 yard drive, with Ryan Lincoln scoring on an 11 yard run. The half ended with the Bears ahead 21-14. The Bears defense shut out the Cardinals in the second half, while the Bears scored on a 39 yard field goal by Kevin Klaus in the third period, followed by a 23 yard touchdown run by Ryan Lincoln in the fourth period. The score ended 31-14 in favor of the Bears. The Bears led in first downs 17-13, rushing yards 343-307, and passing yards 51-40. The leading rushers for the Bears were Maurice Jones with 146 yards on 14 carries and Ricky Lincoln 91 yards on 17 carries. The Bears record is now 2-4, with the district record at 1-1. The Bears next meet the Lockhart Lions in Lockhart next Friday at 7:30 pm.
