Beeville, December 1, 2001 Rashon Ward broke a halftime tie with two third-quarter touchdown runs that gave the Bears a Class 4A Division II third-round victory over the Trojans on Saturday at the Alamodome. The victory was the ninth straight for the Bears after an 0-4 start and puts them in the state quarterfinals against Austin Reagan (11-2) back at the Alamodome at 2 p.m. next Saturday. Beeville finished 11-2. Ward ran for scores of 30 and 22 yards in the third quarter, the first one coming on the opening drive of the second half and the last one after Preston Simons' second interception of the game. Bastrop scored first on a fumble recovery in the end zone by tight end Craig Kuhrt after Robert Smith ran 20 yards and fumbled just before he crossed the goal line. Smith later scored from the 20 in the second stanza. Beeville twice tied the game in the second period on runs of 3 yards by Spencer Chaisson and 4 yards by Brian Bonner.
