Elgin defeats Bastrop 42-14 On the first play of the game Mike Joseph of Elgin scored on a 69-yard run. This would be the pattern of the game. Joseph would gain 141 yards on six carries, all in the first half as he left the game due to an injury. Elgin scored two more touchdowns in the first quarter on Ben Langford’s 30-yard pass to Da’Clayvin Simmons and a 22-yard pass to Jace Grady. Kenneth Esquivel kicked all three PATs, and Elgin led 21-0. Dreyson Watters ran for a 54-yard touchdown for Bastrop and Conner Brown kicked the PAT; the first quarter ending with an Elgin 21-7 lead. In the second quarter Elgin scored the only touchdown on a 34-yard pass from Langford to Simmons. Esquivel kicked the PAT and Elgin led at halftime 28-7. Langford ran for a 15-yard touchdown and Elgin led 35-7 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter Elgin’s Jerome Wreh scored on a 35-yard run with PAT by Esquivel. Watters’ 13-yard run with PAT by Brown ended the scoring and Elgin won 42-14. Elgin led in first downs 25-13, rushing yards 336-145, and passing yards 126-104. Bastrop lost three fumbles. Wreh rushed for 125 yards for Elgin, and Watters led Bastrop rushers with 127 yards.
