Hays defeats Bastrop in triple overtime 47-44.


In a battle of scoring, Hays outlasted Bastrop 47-44 in triple overtime. The Bears scored first on a 28 run by Ryan Lincoln. A. Waters scored for the Rebels with the quarter ending in a 7-7 tie. In the 2nd quarter, the Bears scored first on a four yard run by Jason Klaus. Hays tied the score on a 53 yard run by Waters. Hays scored again but the kick after failed. Kevin Klaus ended scoring in the first half with his first of three field goals in the game. The half ended with Hays ahead 20-17. The Bears took the lead in the 3rd quarter with a 28-yard pass from Jordan Monroe to Ryan Lincoln and a 25-yard field goal by Klaus. In the 4th quarter, a Bastrop drive ended in a fumble. The lone score by Hays tied the score and the quarter ended in a 27-27 tie sending the game into overtime. In the first play of the overtime, Bastrop scored on a 25-yard pass from Lincoln to Cory McDaniel, but Hays tied the game again on a 9-yard run. In the 2nd overtime, Waters scored on a 1-yard run, but Lincoln again tied the game with a 6-yard run. In the 3rd overtime, the Bears had to settle for a 25-yard field goal by Klaus, but Waters scored his fourth touchdown for Hays to win the game 47-44. Lincoln led Bastrop rushers with 131 yards followed by Monroe with 109 yards. Bastrop led in first downs 24-21, and passing yards 99-61. Hays led in rushing yards 371-327.
