High School Football Bastrop ends New Braunfels Canyon’s undefeated season 31-24! The Bastrop Bears defeated the New Braunfels Canyon Cougars 31-24 at Cougar Stadium Friday night. For a second year in a row, the Bears spoiled the Cougars undefeated season. After stopping a Cougar drive at midfield, the Bears drove down the field mainly on the running of Ryan Lincoln. Ricky Lincoln scored the touchdown on a 1 yard run. A two point attempt failed leaving the score 6-0. The Cougars countered with a 30 yard field goal, leaving the score 6-3 at the end of the 1st quarter. Early in the second quarter the Bear’s Kevin Klaus kicked a 34 yard field goal bringing the score to 9-3. On a 30 yard touchdown run following a Bastrop fumble, the Cougars took the lead 10-9. With a little over a minute left in the half Bastrop blocked a punt and took over on the Cougar 6. With 5 seconds on the clock, Ricky Lincoln scored on a 1 yard run. The half ended with the Bears ahead 17-10. There was no score in the 3rd quarter. The Cougars scored two touchdowns on runs of 6 and 7 yards and regained the lead 24-17. The Bears quickly tied the score on a 73 yard pass from Jacob Johnson to Dominique Moore. On their next possession, the Bears put together a five play 56 yard drive. Ricky Lincoln again scored on a 1 yard run giving the Bears the win 31-24. Ryan Lincoln was the Bears leading rusher with 110 yards, followed by Ricky Lincoln with 64 yards. Moore was the leading receiver with 147 yards. The Bears led in 1st downs 17-11 and passing 144-18. Canyon led in rushing yards 208-186. Bastrop plays their last district game against Lake Travis in a must win situation at home next Friday. Bastrop High School Football Schedules/Results
