High School Football Bastrop loses to Dripping Springs 10-3! The Bastrop Bears lost to the Dripping Springs Tigers 10-3 Friday night in a closely fought game. Bastrop’s second district loss put them in a must win situation in their final two games in order to advance to the playoffs. The Bears started the 1st quarter with almost a seven minute drive that ended in a missed 30 yard field goal attempt. The Tigers then started a long drive from their 20 yard line that ended with a 36 yard field goal. The first period ended with the Tigers ahead 3-0. In the 2nd quarter the Bears fumbled in their next two series, but the defense held and the half ended with the score 3-0. In the 3rd quarter the Bears mounted a 15 play 7 minute drive ending with a 38 yard field goal by Klaus tying the score at 3-3. In the 4th quarter, the Tigers came back on a 10 play drive that ended with a 16 yard touchdown run by Joel Gross which turned out to be the winning score,10-3. The Bears would not give up though and starting from their own 13 with 5 minutes left drove down to the Tiger 7 yard line. With time running out, a pass into the end zone was barely incomplete ending the game at 10-3 in favor of the Tigers. The Bears led in first downs 16-12, in yards rushing 269-209, and in passing yards 64-16. In rushing Ricky Lincoln rushed for 126 yards, and Maurice Jones for 71 yards. Dominique Moore was the leading receiver with 22 yards. The Bears meet New Braunfels Canyon in New Braunfels next Friday. Canyon is undefeated in District play.
