The Bastrop Bears defeated LBJ Friday night at Austin’s Nelson Field 42-7. After receiving the opening kickoff, the Bears marched 60 yards on an eight play drive. The running attack was led by Maurice Jones who led all rushers with 133 yards on 18 carries. Ryan Lincoln made the first touchdown on a 5 yard run. The extra point by Kevin Klaus was good. The Bears defense was in control throughout the game, only allowing one touchdown late in the 3rd quarter on a 32 yard run. The Bears next score came on a 58 yard drive in the second quarter with a 2 yard run by Ricky Lincoln. The Bears were not through yet and with 1:40 left in the half, Jacob Johnson led a passing attack that ended with a 11 yard pass for a touchdown to Dominique Moore. With a 2 point conversion, the Bears led at halftime 21-0. The Bears continued to play impressive ball and scored again on a 1 yard run by Ricky Lincoln with 5:33 left in the 3rd quarter. LBJ then scored their only touchdown and the 3rd quarter ended 28-7. The Bears scored their final two touchdowns in the 4th quarter on a 2 yard run by Jason Klaus and a 5 yard run by Jordan Monroe. The final score was 42-7 in favor of the Bears. Bastrop led in first downs 24-8, in rushing 289-137, and passing 77-21. The Bears record is now 1-3. and District play starts next week Friday, September 26th against New Braunfels at their home field. Game time is 7:30 pm.
