High School Football Bastrop Bears lose 52-28 to Belton Tigers! The Belton Tigers defeated the Bastrop Bears 52-28 at Tiger Field in Belton. The Tigers drove down the field on their first possession after returning the opening kickoff 57 yards to the Bear 33 yard line. They scored on a 28 yard pass and extra point making the score 7-0. Bastrop then went on a 6 ½ minute drive only to end on there own 38 after a long penalty and 25 yard loss on a lateral. On the punt effort the snap sailed over the punters head and he took a safety to bring the score to 9-0 after one period. After apparently being stymied on the Tiger’s third drive, Adam Dominguez hit Jonathan Ferguson on a 55 yard touchdown pass., bringing the score to 16-0. Belton again scored on their next drive of 31 yards when Ramonce Taylor scored on a 6 yard run bringing the score to 22-0. After a promising drive by the Bears to the Tiger 29, a Tiger interception brought the ball back 58 yards. On a 23 yard run by Taylor the score jumped to 29-0. The Bears fumbled on their next series, and on a 32 yard run the Tigers ended the scoring in the first half at 36-0. The Bears came out in the third quarter and after a 61 yard run by Maurice Jones the Bears scored on an 11 yard touchdown pass from Jacob Johnson to Jacob Young. The extra point by Kevin Klaus made the score 36-7. The Tigers countered with a 32 yard field goal making the score 39-7 entering the fourth quarter. Early in the 4th quarter the Tigers scored again on a 2 yard run to bring the score to 45-7. The Bears then scored on a 21 yard pass from Johnson to Dominque Moore. The extra point was good bringing the score to 45-14. Belton ended their scoring with a 42 yard run by Knight with about 6 minutes to play and a 52-14 lead. Bastrop was not through though. With 2 minutes left Ryan Lincoln scored on a 16 yard run bringing the score to 52-21. Bastrop recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and with seconds left Ryan Lincoln scored on a 13 yard run making the final score 52-28. The statistics were more even. Belton made 17 first downs to the Bears 16. Belton led in rushing 252-137, and Bastrop led in passing 148-84.
