High School Football Bastrop Bears lose 27-7 in opener! The Round Rock Dragons defeated the Bastrop Bears 27-7 at Bastrop's Erhard Field. The score was tied at halftime 7-7, but things quickly changed in the the second half. In first half action, the Dragons scored on their first possession with a 38 yard pass. The Bears tied the score in the second quarter on a 6 yard run by quarterback Jacob Johnson. On Bastrop's first possession in the second half, Ricky Lincoln, the Bears leading rusher was injured, and did not return. The Dragons then drove 80 yards on their first possession of the second half to take a 14-7 lead. Following a short punt by the Bears, the Dragons scored again just before the end of the 3rd quarter on a 28 yard run making the score 21-7. The scoring ended in the final period on a 70 yard drive that consumed more than 7 minutes and 15 plays-with the final being 27-7. Round Rock's Zerrick McIntosh was the leading rusher with 153 yards on 27 carries. The Dragons offense rushed for 284 yards on 44 carries and 69 yards passing. The Bears countered with 90 yards rushing on 27 carries and 87 yards passing. Ricky Lincoln was the Bears leading rusher with 53 yards on 6 carries and Dominque Moore was the leading receiver with 42 yards. Bastrop's next game is at 5A Belton at 7:30 pm September 5th.
